The wine has an array of characters with upfront plum, dark chocolate, dried figs, leather saddle and white pepper. Sweet Shiraz fruit surrounds a firm tannin backbone whilst a touch of earth and acid provides length and ensures the finish is long and voluptuous.

1x Normans Peacock McLaren Vale Shiraz Cabernet 2016 - 15.00% Alc
Deep dark red colour, the bouquet of dark fruit and dried herbs and earth on the nose with hints of mocha and chocolate. The palate is full of soft dark fruit flavours when allowed to breathe, there is a natural earth character to the wine reminiscent of a Southern Rhone style blend. Blackberry, and blackcurrant in highly concentrated amounts, dark plum, liquorice all provide an opulent yet not overpowering feel. Spicy vanillin cedar, subtle earthy tobacco character and a touch of pepper.

Deep dark red colour with black tinged edges and a dark red hue. Intense dark to black raspberry aromas intermingle with dark plum and liquorice followed by vanillin confectionary and spice. Rich, voluptuous in texture and exceptionally long in the mouth, this is one powerful Grenache. Succulent black raspberry flavours dominate over liquorice and ripe black cherries. There’s an echo of vanillin confectionary on the finish and loads of spice. Bright acidity with firm yet balanced tannins providing a robust framework. Very long conclusion of black raspberries, liquorice, vanillin confectionary and spicy pepper.

1x Kilikanoon Omen Shiraz 2017 - 14.50% Alc
Deep inky purple in colour. Aromas showing subtle notes of vanilla, blackberries, pepper and eucalyptus against an alluring background of liquorice and soft oak. Gorgeous and aromatic. Generously proportioned with a rich and smooth texture that fills the palate. Flavours of plum and blackberry give way to a softly spicy and heady mix of dark chocolate, pepper, mint and liquorice. A long lasting and velvety finish, elongated by the fine, powdery, slightly grippy tannins. Vibrant acidity ensures a fresh balance.

1x Shanahans The Reaper Barossa Valley Shiraz 2021 - 15.00% Alc
Concentrated fruit flavours of blackberry, plum, black olive, dark chocolate and earth. Allowing the wine time to open up will reveal a natural fruit elegance and perfectly engulfed oak flavours. The finish is long with perfectly balanced natural fruit acid and silky-smooth tannins which will ensure the longevity of this release.

More compelling evidence that Shiraz really is not the poor kid from the wrong side of the tracks in the Coonawarra region. This is from a terra rossa vineyard and the grapes have undergone a light crushing before the juice then spends eight days in fermentation before a gentle pressing. 30% is matured in 2nd fill American oak hogsheads. Red/purple in colour, on a very perfumed nose we have pleasing notes of red cherries, spices, florals and raspberries. Nicely balanced and with excellent length, this finishes with soft yet abundant tannins. The oak is very well handled. The wine lifts on the palate as more flavours emerge from their shell. Delicious now but will drink well over the next five to ten years.

"Deep and dark hue, this is an energetic style, overflowing with attractive freshness. In the glass, a combination of chocolate, dark berries, cherries, florals, dry herbs, and coffee beans. Sleek and supple texture, there is a hint of espresso bitterness on the very finish. Silky tannins are carried by impressive length and excellent balance. This has a most promising future over the next decade and the score should rise during that time."

"An appealing, rich style of Barossa Shiraz, with a rather immodest 15.3% alcohol, though the balance seems to make that near invisible. Chocolate, red fruits, smoked meats, spices, aniseed and florals. This is a ripe style with an attractive, supple texture with fine velvety tannins and impressive length. Enjoy this any time over the next eight years."

"The Hobbsys have done very well indeed here, from the excellent '21 vintage. It's made in the amarone/appassimento style; so semi-drying of the grapes on racks, wild ferment follows. There is often a density and broodiness to such styles. Not so here, as there is some lovely detail to the ripe dark and black plum and berry fruits with shades of spice box, dates, dark and milk chocolate, veal jus, glazed black cherries and earth. It's a lovely drink."

Clarendon Hills Domaine Clarendon Grenache 2020
95 Point Rated - Erin Larkin Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2020 Domaine Clarendon Grenache is saturated with blood, salted raspberry, licorice and fennel seeds. The supple and elegant fruit is stretched over a framework of very fine but firm tannins. This is awesome: structure, shape, drive, savory tannins and length of flavor. It has grunt and some amaro and alpine herbs. Very smart.

93 Point Rated - JamesSuckling.com
"This has a very fresh and vibrant feel with such intense raspberry and red plum as well as blood orange and rust. Really savory and distinctive. The palate has such succulent acidity and a piercing red and dark berry-plum core. Long supple tannins. Well defined with plenty of structure. Excellent value. Drink over the next decade."

93+ Point Rated - The Wine Front
"Good things happening here. Plum, blue and red fruit, meaty, yet perfumed. Juicy blood plum, fine ferrous tannin grip, savoury and a little spicy, really impressive texture, with hazelnut and blood orange acidity, firm and dry to close, umami and potpourri carry on a long gravelly finish. Really good."
